Snapfish Launches Single Use Cameras to Retail Channel
Industry-first product line offers free developing, prints and online sharing with purchase of Snapfish-branded single use cameras
ORLANDO, Fla. February 12, 2001 -
Snapfish.com Corporation, the leading online photo destination for digital and film developing, printing and sharing, today launched a unique line of single use cameras to the retail channel at the Photo Marketing Association convention in Orlando. Snapfish is the first online photo company to offer single use cameras at retail.
Snapfish developed the single use cameras through an agreement with Private Label Programs, Inc., a single use camera manufacturer based in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. The purchase price of the cameras includes free developing, a free full set of prints on Kodak paper and free online picture sharing from Snapfish. A nominal shipping and handling fee for the prints will also be charged.
Snapfish is launching the program with Snapfish-branded cameras, but will also offer retailers the option to develop custom private label cameras for distribution in their stores. Snapfish will provide complete online photo services for private label and Snapfish-branded cameras.
"The Snapfish single use cameras combine a unique customer acquisition mechanism with a new revenue stream," Snapfish vice president of business development, Suneet Wadhwa said. "We work to pave the way for the online photo category with new and inventive products designed to support our unique value proposition."
Snapfish helps families stay connected through photographs. For each roll of film or single use camera customers mail in, Snapfish offers developing, scanning, negatives and a full set of quality prints on Kodak paper, all for free. Customers simply mail their film in free, postage-paid Snapfish film mailers and pay just $1.69 per roll for shipping and handling of their prints for up to 24 rolls every 12 months. Snapfish creates password-protected online photo albums for each user to store, caption and share favorite photos. Digital camera users can upload, store and share photos for free.
With its award-winning business model, Snapfish is positioned to redefine the consumer photography industry and provide consumers with breakthrough benefits in online photography. Snapfish is privately held and backed by Kodak, Mayfield Fund, @Ventures (the affiliated venture capital arm of CMGI, Inc.) Trans Cosmos, Audax Ventures, BellSouth, Compaq, and additional private investors. The company is based in San Francisco.
